| What is Abusive Behaviour |
|
As First Nations people, abusive behaviour is not our original way of relating to each other, whether it be to our friends, family members, between man and woman, boy or girl. This behaviour has been learned from influences outside our own over many years, so we have forgotten our original cultural teachings around relating to each other with kindness and respect. Over time these negative messages have come from residential schools, historical influences, the media and advertising on television. These messages can become part of who we are without us realizing it. These ways of behaving have to do with the way men and women can sometimes treat each other. |
